Competitive Dancing
Heat 109, the Rumba... Dancers places please, and MUSIC!!! you hear over the loud speakers. Your knees are weak and you can feel your heart racing 100 mph. You are competing now. When The Lights Came On: Competitive Dancing.
My wife and I had been dancing socially for a little over two years when we saw a newcomer (who was a USA Dance competitor) to Huntsville participate in a Showcase at our studio. My wife and I were both blown away by his performance, agreeing his was easily the most beautiful dance of the entire Showcase. Most striking, he performed a simple Bronze syllabus routine in contrast to the professional choreography that everyone else was doing. That was when the lights came on for me - a simple Bronze routine danced well easily outclassed the other dances that night. I remember telling my wife on the way home that night that we were going to learn to dance like that.
So why participate in USA Dance competitive dancing? I can think of seven reasons …
- It’s the fastest way to become a better dancer.
- You spend quality time with your spouse (if your partner is your spouse.)
- Your health will inevitably improve; the vast majority of competitive dancers are in much better physical condition than their age peers.
- You network with some really good dancers, both amateur and professional.
- The cost to compete is significantly cheaper than Pro-Am competition.
- You meet some great people.
- You have a lot of fun!!!
